MINARDS STORY

Minard’s Spaghetti Inn was established in 1937 by Michael and Rose Minard. A love and talent for cooking came naturally to this Italian family, and with funds short due to the Great Depression, the couple put their ability to use. Together, they opened up their home and served the first plate of spaghetti in their personal dining room on the original Minard family table. The table is still in use, and it the first table you see upon entering the restaurant. In 1938, Samuel Minard joined his brother in business along with Samuel’s wife, Agnes. Although the original idea of starting a restaurant began with the Minard brothers, Rose and Agnes, who were sisters, worked together along side of their husbands ensuring the success of the family business. The two couples lived together in the Minard family home where they raised their children.

Word spread quickly about the delicious spaghetti and meatballs, and the couples found they had outgrown their dining room. This prompted them to renovate their home, dedicating the entire first floor to the restaurant. As business grew, renovations continued, but the two families always maintained residence above the restaurant. Throughout the years, additions to the original building expanded the restaurant to its current seating capacity of 120 guests.

The Minard families were try entrepreneurs constantly keeping their eyes set on the future and updating their business accordingly. The business is not in its second generation of ownership being led by Joe Minard, son of Michael and Rose. Recently, Joe’s eldest son, Michael, and his daughter Marisa, have joined in the family business.

This generation brought about new ideas and endeavors. In 1972, Joe Minard added a federally inspected processing facility to the building, allowing Minard’s Spaghetti Inn to package their Italian Specialties for wholesale and retail sale. Today, you can find Minard’s sauce, meatballs and lasagna in the frozen food section of your local grocery store.

Minard’s prides itself on using quality ingredients, and being an affordable, enjoyable dining experience for the entire family. Minard’s has become a landmark in the community where some customers still remember the early days of the business.  One of the best compliments received from those customers is that the spaghetti tastes the same as it did all those years ago. These memories and relationships are very special to the Minard family.
